The Press Gallery: Inside Alberta politics

Sep 22, 2017

The Press Gallery podcast team takes its weekly look back at Alberta politics, which this week seemed to include an awful lot of nest-leaving. First off, United Conservative MLA Rick Fraser left the nest of the new party to sit as an independent. Join host Emma Graney as she chats about that development with guests Dave Breakenridge, Paula Simons and Graham Thomson, as well as the political implications of 123 birds that left their nests and ended up dead in a tailings pond in Northern Alberta. The team also takes a brief look at this week's UCP leadership debate. Good stuff from the gallery Dave's pick: This intensely personal blog about a cancer diagnosis, from Wellspring Calgary.    Paula's pick: American Vandal, a great true crime satire on Netflix.  Emma's pick: This CBC throwback from 1995, starring our very own Graham Thomson and a giant perogy on a fork. On a more serious note, this excellent history on ABC, about Australia's habit of dictating the marriages of minorities.   Graham's pick: New book Oil's Deep State, which argues that the industry undermines democracy and stops action on global warming in Alberta.   ** For all of the Good Stuff links, head to http://edmontonjournal.com/tag/the-press-gallery
