The Press Gallery: Inside Alberta politics

Nov 13, 2015

Winning the election is hard. Governing is much harder. Half a year since Alberta voters tossed out the Tories, the NDP government has run into a bit of trouble. A recent poll has only 27 per cent of Albertans saying Rachel Notley's crew is doing a good job, and places the party at a statistical dead heat with Brian Jean's Wildrose. This week on The Press Gallery, Edmonton Journal’s politics podcast, city columnist Paula Simons, provincial affairs columnist Graham Thomson and provincial affairs reporter Jodie Sinnema join host Brent Wittmeier to argue about blunders, closed doors and transparency, and also how local and national agencies get into gear to bring in 25,000 Syrian refugees. Good Stuff from the Gallery, a weekly segment, concludes the show. Paula’s pick: Cold Comfort: The trials of Sweden’s Syrian refugees, by Shannon Gormley Graham’s pick: Canada can rise to the refugee challenge, by Peter Showler Jodie’s pick: The Unremembered: on Afghanistan veteran suicides and mental health, by Renata D'Aliesio Brent’s pick: Politics and the new machine: What the turn from polls to data science means for democracy, by Jill Lepore
