The Press Gallery: Inside Alberta politics

Jul 23, 2016

This week's edition of The Press Gallery, Edmonton Journal's weekly politics podcast, looks at political stories of the week from points north, south and right here at home in Alberta. Provincial affairs columnist Graham Thomson, in Whitehorse for the premiers' conference, delivered a brief Friday morning update on the first day of the two-day gathering of provincial leaders. City columnist Paula Simons, provincial affairs reporter Emma Graney and health reporter Keith Gerein also joined opinion editor Sarah O'Donnell to follow up on the premiers' business and discuss potential deals and stumbling blocks. The group also talked about the reports released this week by Alberta's auditor general and the child and youth advocate on the province's child welfare system, which both say is failing indigenous youth and must be reformed. On the health file, there's a look at a report from Alberta Health Services on an Edmonton medical facility that highlights some potential gaps in the province's inspection system. And of course, who can resist talking about that Republican convention which wrapped up with nominee Donald Trump's speech in Cleveland, Ohio.
