Alberta politics seemed to take on the fizzy tingle of a carbonated beverage this week, after the federal government announced a carbon tax and parties here responded — and not positively. Between Rachel Notley saying the Liberal plan would not get support until there's a pipeline and Opposition Leader Brian Jean saying the whole idea stinks, there wasn't a whole lot of love for Ottawa in Alberta. The Edmonton Journal's Press Gallery podcast guests Stuart Thomson, Paula Simons and Graham Thomson join host Emma Graney as they talk carbon, shine some light on Alberta's plan to pursue solar power, and talk possible candidates now that the Progressive Conservative leadership race has officially begun. Good stuff from the gallery Stuart's pick: A fascinating read from New Yorker writer Larissa MacFarquhar, In The Heart of Trump Country, reminding us that people are more complicated than we think. Emma's pick: The feel-good tale of how the Reddit community came together to help a little girl who lost her stuffed toy bunny at a Regina library. Paula's pick: The Alexander Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow, which gets into the nitty gritty of how the American Civil War played out.
