The Press Gallery: Inside Alberta politics

Sep 7, 2014

As former federal cabinet minister Jim Prentice transitions to his new job as Alberta’s 16th premier, The Press Gallery podcast convened to discuss his Saturday night victory in the PC leadership contest and how the party’s electronic voting experiment worked. Sarah O’Donnell, host of the Journal’s politics podcast, talks with Legislature reporter Mariam Ibrahim, provincial affairs columnist Graham Thomson and content editor Kathy Kerr about Prentice’s landslide victory, the party’s pitiful voter turnout and problems with the electronic ballots that seemed to plague supporters of all three candidates. The Journal’s political reporting team also talks about how Thomas Lukaszuk and Ric McIver handled the defeat in the race for the PC party’s top job and what comes next in Alberta politics as premier-designate Jim Prentice prepares to move into the premier’s office.
