The Press Gallery: Inside Alberta politics

Nov 27, 2015

Black Friday has a new meaning in Alberta. On Monday, Calgary-Greenview MLA Manmeet Bhullar was killed while trying to assist a motorist on the shoulder of Highway 2. This week on The Press Gallery, Edmonton Journal’s politics podcast, city columnist Paula Simons, and provincial affairs reporter Mariam Ibrahim join host Brent Wittmeier to talk about Bhullar's work and what his loss means for Alberta politics. Other topics of discussion include the NDP's climate change plans and federal revisions to plans to bring in 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year, now revised to 10,000 by New Year's, with the rest coming in the weeks afterwards. Good Stuff from the Gallery, a weekly segment, concludes the show. Paula’s pick: The Magna Carta, on display at the Federal Building, as described in Paula's column earlier this week. Mariam’s pick: Transcript and video of the Alberta Legislature's Wednesday afternoon session, commemorating Manmeet Bhullar. Graham’s pick: Unfollow: How a prized daughter of the Westboro Baptist Church came to question its beliefs, by Adrian Chen. Brent’s pick: In excluding single men from their refugee plan, Liberals are playing by Tories' rules, by Leah McLaren.
